The Language Archive has officially been accepted as a regular member of the ICSU (International Council of Science) World Data System. The World Data System supports ICSU’s mission and objectives, ensuring the long-term stewardship and provision of quality-assessed data and data services to the international science community and other stakehold. As described on the WDS website, Regular Members are nodes within a “system of data systems” that deal directly with data curation and data analysis services. Our application was reviewed favourably by two referees.
This is what the second reviewer had to say: “The TLA should be congratulated on the quality of the archive and associated services that they have established for the international psycho-linguistic research community. They provide an exemplary model for the provision of free open data deposit, storage, archival, curation, and search services. They actively promote the adoption of open access through international standards and collaborate actively with major humanities and research communities worldwide. Their ability to attract long term funding for staff and high quality infrastructure is a reflection on the standard and reputation of the TLA and will help to ensure long-term access to the valuable data/metadata within their collections.”
