Trova is a web-based system and requires only a web browser and at least version 10.0 of the free Adobe Flash plugin. A fast internet connection improves the user experience, for example when browsing through result lists.
You can also access the search engine directly with help of our CQL Search web service. However, advanced search options are not available via CQL and the results are also returned in a more basic style compared to Trova.
On the server, Trova requires Java, Tomcat and PostgreSQL. Having several CPU cores (in particular for the database server, for multi-threaded access) and enough RAM (again in particular for the database server, a few gigabyte should be installed) helps to ensure good performance on large corpora such as the one of The Language Archive. Of course none of this is important if you are just using Trova!
