The Michigan Corpus of Academic Spoken English (MICASE) is an ongoing project to record and transcribe a diverse range of academic speech, based at the English Language Institute of the University of Michigan. To support transcription work, a freeware Windows 95 program has been developed, called SoundScriber.

TLA-team: Software offers normal playback features (play, FF, Rew, Pause), it also includes features specifically for transcription. 1) keystokes to control program while working in another window, 2) variable speed playback 3) a feature called “walking”, which allows a small stretch of the file to be played several times and automatic advancement to a new piece.
