Amharic in ELAN

I wanted to annotate Amharic in my new ELAN file but couldn’t, only small boxes appear. Any help?
Thanks,
Eyasu

If you see small boxes then, most likely, the font doesn’t support the characters needed for Amharic?
Or maybe you selected a custom font (non-Unicode?) that is not supported (bij Java) ?

I am also facing the same problem. When I start typing in Amharic in ELAN, small boxes appear. I am using UNICODE font in Keyman desktop 8 keyboard. The Nyala, Abyssinica SIL font, are some of the fonts I use which are high quality fonts which include all Ethiopic letters and symbols in the Unicode 4.1 standard. I can type anywhere including FLEx language software, without any problem, but only in ELAN. I can easily type here also ሠላም ናችሁ? ‘How are you?’ So any help please? What is the problem with ELAN?

Just to be sure: did you set the font in ELAN as well for the specific tier(s)? Setting it in Keyman does not mean it is used in ELAN a well.
In case you didn’t yet, you can set the font in the More Options window of the Add/Change Tier window.
Apologies if I misunderstand the situation.
