Hi Christopher,

I’m afraid that, after the first quick look when you published it, I haven’t been able to look into this more extensively.
I have, and still am, been working on (among other things) video integration on macOS in combination with Java 8 or higher. At the moment I’m testing with Java 11; a shift to that version requires several other adaptations to the source (so apart from media playback). One of the main short-term goals is to remove the Java 6 dependency.

I still intend to look into this more closely and do some testing at some point. And then also test a few of my hunches concerning this (namely that it shouldn’t be necessary to have locking code in TranscriptionImpl for this type of locking, that it might be possible to have locking without a lock file, that it might need to be an option that can be switched on in the Preferences. I would like to reduce the “help, I can’t open my file” risk as much as possible.).
