Files won't be displayed

Hey everyone,

since I updated my Mac on the new SIerra Version I have failed to work with Elan anymore.

The opened files won’t display the content although it is still there since I can still open the values and annotations for tiers but nothing is to be seen on the main screen.

I tried different versions (the older ones won’t even open) but nothing will work.

Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks a lot,
Femke

Hi Femke,

The situation is not entirely clear to me; you can open annotations, so they must be visible somewhere? In what part of the screen there is nothing to be seen? It is not a matter of tiers that are made invisible, hidden?

You could try this maybe: copy (in the Finder) one of the eaf files to a different location, but without the .pfsx file with the same name. If you open the copied file is there still nothing to be seen?

Dear Han,

the Elan window will open and the file name ist to be displayed but even if I create a new file non of the functions are to be seen in the window which ist totally empty.

-Femke

this would be the protocol I get by just opening the program

Ok, thanks for the logs. Not much special in there, is the log viewer still accessible after opening a file (so when you see the empty screen, is the menu still there)?

Referring to your initial message: it’s still not clear to me how you are able to open values and annotations. Is that in a different application then? Just for my understanding…

After opening the file, the log viewer is not accessible anymore.

Not it is not in a different application but in the header with the different menus.

I think it has something to do with the Java Version since ELAN 4.9.2 with JavaFX player is working but not as good as compared to the other program versions.

According to the log that you posted, the Java version is the right one (1.6) for the normal ELAN releases.

I still don’t have a good picture of what the state of the program is after opening a file; apparently the menu’s are non-functional because you can’t do View->View Log… But you mention that you can edit annotations in “the header with the menus”? A screenshot might clarify this all a bit (han.sloetjes AT mpi.nl)?

After opening a file and then closing it again and exiting ELAN, you can find the log file in:
<user_home>/Library/Preferences/ELAN/elan0.log (or elan1.log etc.)
Maybe you can mail that file (or the relevant part of it, of the last launch) to the same email address?
