Media Clip using M2-edit (disabled)

Dear Han,

I was wanting to extract some short video clips with some speech annotations from ELAN (5.4. version) using Media Clip using M2-edit.

I followed exactly this instruction:

https://tla.mpi.nl/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Clip_media_Windows.pdf

Additonally, I checked if ffmpeg is working on my Win 10 using this instruction:

https://www.wikihow.com/Install-FFmpeg-on-Windows

Everything seems to be fine. I always rebooted the computer.

Now, then I go to ELAN, check the box “selection mode”, mark a part of interest (includes only a short speech utterance) go to “Export As” in “File” and the option of Media Clip using M2-edit is still diabled (in light grey).

What am I doing wrong? Any hints/comments/ideas?

I would really appreciate it.

Best,

J

Hello Joanna,

M2-edit is an application that can be used to clip video, just like ffmpeg (but m2-edit is a commercial application). Clipping with m2-edit is hardcoded and if m2-edit is not found on your system, the menu item is disabled.

Clipping with ffmpeg is an alternative to clipping with m2-edit and is more flexible (because the clipping command can be adjusted in a “script”). To use this, you have to choose the option File->Export As->Media CLip using Script… So, it seems you’re almost there!

I now see that the manual section about m2-edit is a bit confusing, we’ll update it.
