.mts to mp4 conversion, ELAN not reading video files

I have video files in VLC Media Player which are saved as .mts. I converted the files to .mp4 so that ELAN can read the files, however when I open the converted .mp4 video file in ELAN, the media player viewer is blue and I am unable to play the video. Has anyone run into a similar problem or have suggestions on how I might convert my video files so that ELAN can read them? Thanks!

You could compare your conversion settings with the ones in our media encoding guide? Maybe convert again with the recommended settings and try again in ELAN?

Hi Han,

Thank you for your response. I have converted the .mts file to .mp4 using these recommended settings, yet ELAN is still not reading these files. I am trying to convert the file directly in VLC since I am working with sensitive participant data and do not want to download additional software from the internet. It seems that ELAN cannot read the converted file, so I am wondering if there may be another solution?

So, the conversion wasn’t done (directly) with e.g. ffmpeg but in VLC? I don’t know if that can be the reason why it doesn’t work.
At the same time it is difficult to advise on another solution. Maybe .mts can work but thne you would have to download other software as well.
Is this on Windows (because of the blue viewer)? Any clear messages in the log (View->View Log…)?

Yes, that is correct, I am directly converting in VLC. This is being done on Windows 10 and I am using the most updated version of ELAN 5.7-FX. Is there an email I can send screenshots of the log messages to?

Thank you for your help!
