I have just downloaded the new ELAN 5.5 (because my laptop made me).
Now as I am working, it froze twice completely (in the last hour).
After restarting it, I started to re-segment my file. Now I only did a short part, just in case it freezes again I can save it and take small steps.Leaving transcription mode to go back to segmenting my file, the programme does not allow me to continue segmenting. What can I do about this? I just want to continue working, is this normal?

Hi, that shouldn’t be normal. If I understand it correctly your workflow consists of switching back and forth between Segmentation mode and Transcription mode. That should be possible and in principle seems to be working.
If you switch back to Segmentation what is exactly not working? Can you start and stop the player? If so, is it the key stroke for marking the segments that is not working?
Am I right to conclude that you are working on macOS (since the laptop made you to update)?

Hi Han, thank you for answering.

You are right to conclude I am working on MacOS.
My workflow does consist of switching between the two.
Currently the player does not work well at all. I have made 12 segments and then want to switch to Transcription mode. I have ‘automatic playback of media’ ticked on as well as ‘loop mode’ but in Transcription mode the player does not work. (it repeats the first fraction of a second constantly). Back in segmentation mode the player pauses and plays on its own terms, playing a few seconds of an already segmented part and then pause again.

Best, Sandra

With the additional information of the settings you use have, I was able to reproduce the problem. It must be a bug we have to look into; some problems are also there on Windows.
But the new media player in the Mac version seems to be effected more than others. You can try alternative players via Edit Preferences and then the Platform/OS tab; if you are working with video, you can try the JavaFX player, if you are working with audio only you could try the JavaSound player.

Hi Han,

It seems to be that the biggest problem is in Transcription mode.
When using Annotation mode to write the transcriptions in and Segmentation mode to segment it, I can switch freely between the two and the media player does not get stuck anymore.
