statistics view for annotation II level

Hi, I have a question regarding the statistics view that ELAN generates.

I am looking at ‘annotations II’ level ‘statistics view’ for a particular tier and its corresponding ‘controlled vocabulary’ I created.

I am a bit confused as certain codes/controlled vocabulary appear twice on separate rows. For ex. 1 code appears on one row showing 5 occurrences and then on another row showing 1 occurrence separately. Is this is due to the duration of these annotations? None of my annotations are of the same duration, hence 5 occurrences appearing in 1 row and 1 occurrence in a separate row doesn’t make sense to me. Could you help me explain this please?

Many thanks!

Hi,
You’re right, the additional row with 1 occurrence cannot be due to the duration of that annotations. The only valid reason for that annotation to be in a different row is that the value is actually different. The comparison of annotation values is not only case sensitive, but also includes invisible characters (white space, tab etc.). When using a controlled vocabulary there shouldn’t be such differences of course, but could it be that, by accident, an annotation has been double clicked with the Shift key pressed and a space or tab was inserted into the annotation?

Since there is only one annotation in that extra row, the Latency column can help you locate that annotation and check if the above happened (or maybe simply apply the same value of the controlled vocabulary once more and see if that fixed the problem).
