Video syncing oddity

Hello–I’ve encountered a play-back oddity when syncing three videos for annotation. Using the media synchronization mode, I am able to get the three videos perfectly synchronized so that in that particular presentation they are playing together smoothly and simultaneously. However, when I switch to annotation mode, a lag enters into the videos so that the two secondary videos (they appear one above the other on the right side of the video media display in the annotation page) start to increasingly lag behind the primary video. Also, all three videos begin to jump and skip as they play. But, when I switch back to the synchronization mode, they’re playing smoothly and perfectly synchronized once again. I’m working in ELAN 3.3.0 on Macs with the Leopard OS. Any suggestions? Thank you!

This is difficult to explain. For what I can see, the same thing is happening in sync mode and in annotation mode as far as media handling is concerned. A difference is that in annotation mode a couple of viewers are connected that are disconnected in sync mode. This will consume part of the processor’s time. Maybe the machine is not powerful enough to handle all players and viewers?

I am having a similar problem. I am running Elan on 2 different macs, one has leopard the other has tiger. The problem occurs when I switch to annotation mode and also if I reopen the file after saving.

I should also say that I am running a mac pro with 2 x 2.8 GHz quad core intel xeon. It is a really fast computer, and should be able to handle playing all 4 videos that I am trying to synch.
